NFL: Week 17 Recap

The Bengals season is finally over. Thank God. The team that came is as the sexy pick to win the AFC North, a team that was suppose to be unstoppable on offense with the addition of T.O. and rookies Jordan Shipley and Jermaine Gresham, a team led by one of the best quarterbacks in the league, Carson Palmer, and a team led by reining head coach of the year, Marvin Lewis, was seen as a possible Super Bowl contender. After a 4-12 season, to think that the Bengals possibly had a chance to go to the Super Bowl is absurd and laughable.

I will start by giving myself a "C'mon Man." What the Hell was I thinking. Not only did I have the Bengals going 11-5, but I had them in the Super Bowl against the Dallas Cowboys. Wow. I was so wrong it's not even funny. I guess I was like every other Bengal fan and bought into the hype of the 2010 Cincinnati Bengals.

After the first game of the season, the thumping against the New England Patriots in Foxboro, you knew that the Bengals would be in for a tough season. However, never in my wildest dreams did I think the Bengals would lose 10 straight game and finish the season in last place in the AFC North at 4-12.

The Bengals have had some very bad years, a lot of them, but 2010 has to go down as the most disappointing season in franchise history. Hard to believe, but true. The real question now, what is to come of the Cincinnati Bengals? So, many questions need to be answered this offseason.

First off, will there be football in 2011 pending the lockout? Who will be the Bengals next head coach, Marvin, Mike Zimmer, God forbid Bob Bratkowski? Will Chad, T.O., Cedric Benson, and Jonathan Joseph be back? Will Carson Palmer be the starting quarterback when the Bengals take the field next? Who will the Bengals take with the 4th overall pick in the draft? Will Mike Brown finally hire a G.M.?

So many questions and right now, no answers. The Bengals have some good players, but they also have some glaring needs personnel wise and on the coaching and front office lines as well. God only knows what Mike Brown is going to do to fix the Bengals this season, but one thing is for sure, it is going to be a while until they are relevant again.

Will they ever win a Super Bowl? I just hope I'm still alive when that day comes, if it ever comes. One bright spot, by going 4-12, the Bengals have a much easier schedule for 2011, but that's so far in the future, it really doesn't matter. It was a long and grueling season and even though I will miss watching the Bengals play football, I'm glad their season is over.

Who-Dey and well, maybe next year.

This will be the final edition of "Holy Crap" and "C'mon Man" for the 2010-2011 NFL Season, but I will have my All-"Holy Crap" and All-"C'mon Man" teams for the year before the Super Bowl in February. I will still, however, post my weekly picks for the playoffs, because I know everyone is dying to know who I think is going to win the Super Bowl.

"Holy Crap"
CIN-Jerome Simpson: 12 Rec, 123 Yds, TD, 2 fumbles. Despite the two costly fumbles, Simpson has been a major surprise the past two weeks and is one of the few bright spots for the Bengals next season.

BAL-S Ed Reed: 3 total tackles, 2 Int. He continues to be a Bengal killer.

Pittsburgh Steelers: Not only did the destroy the Browns, 41-9, but the clinched the AFC North and a first round bye. To do that with not having Ben Roethlisberger for the first four games and still go 12-4 is impressive.

OAK-RB Michael Bush: 25 Car, 132 Yds, TD; 4 Rec, 34 Yds. The Raaaaaaaiders finished 6-0 in the division, but just 8-8 overall and missed the playoffs. Head coach Tom Cable might be out of a job as a result.

NE-QB Tom Brady: 10/16, 199 Yds, 2 TD; QB Rating 145.6. Brady has NFL MVP all locked up.

TB-QB Josh Freeman: 21/26, 255 Yds, 2 TD; QB Rating 133.2. Freeman and the Buccaneers finished 10-6 and are going to be threat next season.

SD-RB Ryan Mathews: 26 Car, 126 Yds, 3 TD. I decided to start Mathews this week in the Championship game of my fantasy football league and he put me over the top and gave me the win. So, thank you Ryan Mathews. "Holy Crap."

DAL-LB DeMarcus Ware: 5 total tackles, 3 sacks (15.5 sacks on the season was the best in the NFL) and returned a fumble for a touchdown. Although Dallas struggled this year, Ware had another very productive season.

ARI-WR Larry Fitzgerald: 11 Rec, 125 Yds, TD. The one player worth keeping for the Cardinals.

HOU-RB Arian Foster: 31 Car, 180 Yds, TD. Foster, almost unheard of coming into the season, ended up leading the league in rushing and rushing touchdowns.

Seattle Seahawks: With a 16-6 win over the St. Louis Rams the Seahawks clinched the NFC West at 7-9. They became the first team in NFL history to make the playoffs with a losing record and now they get to host a playoff game against the defending Super Bowl champions, New Orleans Saints.

"C'mon Man"
CIN-QB Carson Palmer: 32/45, 305 Yds, TD, 2 Int, fumble; QB Rating 78.5. A tough year for Carson and we have to wonder if this was his last game as a Cincinnati Bengal.

Cleveland Browns: Some thought they were on the way up, but a 41-9 lose to the Steelers and a 5-11 season diminished any of those hopes. Head coach Eric Mangini is on his way out of Cleveland.

KC-QB Matt Cassel: 11/33, 115 Yds, 2 Int; QB Rating 19.1. The Chiefs still made the playoffs though.

Buffalo Bills QB's: Brian Brohm: 10/23, 106 Yds, 3 Int; QB Rating 17.9 and Levi Brown: 2/3, 24 Yds, Int; QB Rating 51.4. This follows Ryan Fitzpatrick turning the ball over 5 times last week. I've said before and I will say it again, the Bills will be drafting a quarterback come April.

PHI-QB Kevin Kolb: 18/36, 162 Yds, TD, 3 Int, fumble; QB Rating 37.0. Good thing Michael Vick worked out.

It was a great 2010 NFL Regular Season, despite the Bengals struggles, and I hope we will be talking about the start of the 2011 Regular Season come September.
