NFL 2012: Week 3 Picks

Another disappointing week of picking games for this guy, but the Bengals got their first win of the season, which is all that really matters. Not to mention, I'm ahead by one game against a certain someone who thinks she is better at picking NFL games than me, so things could be worse.

thus far this season.

Things can't get much worse for the Bengals defense though, as they will face RG3 and the high powered Redskins offense on Sunday. After surrendering 617 net passing yards and 71 points in the first two weeks, things aren't good for members of the Cincinnati-D. There is hope however, and I'll get to that in a minute, but first the rest of my week three picks.

Week 3 Picks (Home team in CAPS)

CAROLINA over NY Giants: The Giants have a handful of injuries to some key players, including starters Ahmad Bradshaw, Hakeem Nicks and David Diehl. So, with those injuries and it being a short week, I like the Panthers at home.

CHICAGO over St. Louis: Despite Jay Cutler getting sacked seven times last week and confronting his lineman on national television, creating quite a stir, I'll still take the Bears at home against an improving Rams team.

Buffalo over CLEVELAND: Brandon Weeden played much, much better last week against Cincinnati after having a horrific start to his NFL career and I think the Browns will continue to get better each week. Buffalo RB C.J. Spiller leads the league in rushing with 292-yds, so I'll circle the wagon for a second straight week and take Spiller and the Bills at home.

DALLAS over Tampa Bay: The Buccaneers gave up 604-yds of offense last week to the Giants and although I don't expect Tony Romo and the Cowboys to put up similar numbers, I'll still take the Cowboys in their home opener.

NY Jets over MIAMI: The J-E-T-S, Jets, Jets, Jets, looked pitiful in Pittsburgh last week scoring just 10 points after lighting up the scoreboard in week one. Although I was impressed with Ryan Tannehill and Reggie Bush last week for Miami, but I think the Jets go down to South Beach and get the win.

San Francisco over MINNESOTA: The 49ers are arguably the best team in the NFL right now and only a fool would pick against them.

NEW ORLEANS over Kansas City: Saints end the losing streak and get their first win of the season against a Kansas City that has been anything but impressive thus far.

Detroit over TENNESSEE: Lions rebound after losing in San Francisco last week with a road win down in Tennessee.

INDIANAPOLIS over Jacksonville: Andrew Luck got his first NFL win last week, this week he gets win number two against division rival Jacksonville.

Quarterback Peyton Manning #18 of the Denver Broncos looks on after a play against the Atlanta Falcons during a game at the Georgia Dome on September 17, 2012 in Atlanta, Georgia.

Philadelphia over ARIZONA: Michael Vick and the Eagles have turned the ball over nine times already and somehow they've won both of their games by a combined two points. Philly has to take better care of the football, because their luck will eventually run out. However, their luck won't run out this week. Eagles win at "The Big Toaster."

Atlanta over SAN DIEGO: The Falcons made Peyton Manning look human again on Monday night and I like them to stay undefeated with a win out in sunny San Diego.

Houston over DENVER: This should be a really interesting game to watch. I like the Texans, my Super Bowl pick from the AFC in case you forgot to go into Mile High though, and hand Peyton Manning and the Broncos their second straight loss.

Pittsburgh over OAKLAND: The Raiders were awful last week, but the Black Hole in Oakland is no easy place to play. However, the Steelers make the long trip out west and win behind their defense.

BALTIMORE over New England: Hard to believe, but one of these teams will be 1-2, that's right, 1-2 after the conclusion of this one Sunday night. Unless the game ends in a tie, of course. Stranger things have happened in the NFL, but with TE Aaron Hernandez out and WR Wes Welker being an almost non-factor for the Patriots, I got to go with the Ravens here.

Green Bay over SEATTLE: Green Bay won't make the same mistake as Dallas did last week by coming in unprepared for Seattle up in the Pacific Northwest.

Bengals over WASHINGTON: RG3 versus the 30th ranked defense in the NFL. Oh boy. The Cincinnati defense has been appalling thus far this season and going up against Robert Griffin III in his home opener is not what the doctor order. If there was ever a time to start RG3 on your fantasy team, this would be the week. I fully expect the Redskins to put up a lot of yards and points against a terrible Bengals defense, which won't make defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer much happier. This is what he said was wrong with the defense thus far this season.
"It's everything. Technique, discipline, effort, responsibilities, everything. It's a big problem," Zimmer said. "We don't pass rush, pass cover, stop the run, stop the pass. We don't tackle and play with enough effort."
Amen to all of that, but if there is one saving grace for the Bengals this week it is this, the Redskins defense isn't much better. They rank 28th in league and are tied for 30th against the pass. Washington also has to replace All-Pro linebacker Brian Orakpo and defensive lineman Adam Carriker who were lost to season-ending injuries last week against the Rams.

Andy Dalton and the Bengals offense played very good in my opinion last week against the Browns, so there is hope. RB BenJarvus Green-Ellis has been nothing short of great in his first two games in a Bengals uniform and WR Andrew Hawkins has been sensational. Wide receivers Armon Binns and Brandon Tate have also played well, not to mention A.J. Green as well. This offense is going to score points and in the end I think they will score just a few more than the Redskins. Bengals 31, Redskins 30.

Last Week: 9-7
Overall: 18-14
