Baseball: Will the Reds make the playoffs?

Spring Training is under way the only thing I think about it whether my favorite team, The Cincinnati Reds, will make the playoffs. The Reds did had a play in game in the mid 90's, but big surprise they lost, and this is the only time they have come close to making the playoffs in the last 20 years. I was born in December of 1990 and the Reds won the World Series in October of that same year, so the last time Cincinnati had a champion, I missed it. It's bad enough that the Bengals have not won a playoff game since January 6, 1991, (I was less than four weeks old at the time), the Reds have not made the playoffs since 1995. So, its been about 15 years since the city of Cincinnati had a winner.

It's beginning to look like my generation has cursed the city Cincinnati. Ok, there has been some success for the college teams in our town. UC had its best football ever this past year, but they lost their head coach. Who knows how next season will turn out. The UC basketball program has also made some tourney runs, i.e. the Kenyon Martin teams, but never won a championship cause he got hurt. A curse perhaps. Xavier reached the Elite 8 a couple of times, but no further. They have been beaten by Duke, on some poor calls by the refs and lost to Ohio State with their unbelieveable comeback which carried them to the National Title game. All great achievements, but no championships.

The only true champion in this town since the Reds won the 1990 World Series are the Cincinnati Cyclones, who won the ECHL Cup a few years ago. It's like the Reds Triple-A team winning the Minor League World Series. It's just tot the same as the Reds winning the World Series or the Bengals winning the Super Bowl. This town is desperate for a winner, better yet a champion.

Whether the Reds win the World Series this year, the Bengals win Super Bowl XLV or UC or Xaiver win a National Title, I just want to see a champion for this city. It's no secret that Cincinnati has not be blessed with good sports teams, especially professional teams, in the past 20 years. Dosen't look like UC will make the NCAA tourney and I Xavier is not as good as they have been in the past, and the Bengals, well God only knows with that team. So, the Reds have the next opportunity to be a champion, at least a winner. Even if the Reds just make the playoffs that would be enough for me.

If the Reds don't make the playoffs I will shave my egg shaped head (as it has been called by family and friends). I will look like a complete idoit, so C'mon Cincinnati Reds.
