NCAA Tourney: How hard is it to have a winning bracket?

As sad as it is, I am proud to say that I filled out 10 brackets for this years NCAA Men's Basektball Tournament on ESPN.com and my highest percentile for a single one is 88.3%. My lowest one was in the 0.1% tile, but that was with all 16 seeds advancing to the Final Four, you never know. My homeroom teacher at Moeller, Mr. Ward, did the math one day on how many possible brakcets their are in the NCAA Tourney. I don't remember the exact number and probably could not figure it out if I tried, but it was some number times 10^15 power or something outrageous like that. He even figured out that to filled out all the possible brackets it would take over a year. So, by the time you finished filling out all the possible brackets the next tournament would have already started.

As much as I like filling out the NCAA Tournament bracket, I don't like it that much. After the first weekend of the tournament my bracket, like everyone else's is shot to hell. I had Kansas winning it all and they had to lose in the second round to Northern Iowa. Northern Iowa? I wish I knew how many people had Northern Iowa in the Sweet 16. Even die hard Northern Iowa fans probably did not have them going past the second round. It justs shows how great the NCAA Tournament really is. And now they want to expand it.

Could you imagine having a 96 team bracket to fill out. I would get a hand cramp after filling out the first one. Not to mention the type would be microscopic in order to fit it on a single piece of paper. So, not only is expanding the tournament a stupid idea, it is not very environment friendly. The bracket would be on at least 2 pages if it were expanded. The NCAA Tournament is the best playoff system in all of sports. Major Leauge Baseball and the NBA have their 7 game series which is ok, but does not give the underdog a real chance to win. If Northern Iowa played Kansas in a 7 game series, they would probably lose the series. The NFL is pretty good, but the overtime rules are a joke and although they just changed them, it still is not perfect. I won't even take the time to discuss the BCS, because it's a waste of time. And the NHL has a 7 game series, but no one really watches that. Even with what happened in the Olympics.

If the tourney was expanded to 96 teams then that would probably mean that UC would make the tournament every year. Which would be great, but they were not tourney worthy this year. They played so bad in some games I had to turn the game off. They couldn't even beat the damn Dayton Flyers in the NIT. If they can't do that then they do not deserve to be in the field of 65. The NCAA Tournament is perfect the way it is and as the old saying goes, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." I can't wait for the games this weekend even though I will miss some cause I will be serving damn customers at the Big F. But their could be some great games. And as this tournament has already prove you never know who is going to win.

I like Kentucky, Ohio State, Baylor and Kansas State to reach the Final Four. Sorry Xavier. They have a good team and Jordan Crawford is a beast, but I don't see them beating K-State. But you never know.

BTW: Now that Obama has fixed Health Care, maybe he should take on the BCS and pass a bill forebidding the expansion of the NCAA tourney. Just a suggestion.
