NFL: Week 8

Before getting to the Bengals game here my Week 8 picks. Last week I went 7-7, bringing the season total to 59-45. A lot of byes this week, so only 13 games, but still should be a good weekend of football.

Week 8 Picks
Washington over Detroit: I almost picked the Lions in this one, but Washington is the better team. Last year the Lions beat the Redskins at home, but they didn't have QB Donovon McNabb. The Lions will get back QB Matthew Stafford, but I don't think it will be enough. Redskins in a close one.

Dallas over Jacksonville: Jacksonville stinks, in my opinion, but Dallas isn't much better. Even without QB Tony Romo, I like the Cowboys in this one. Ex-Bengal Jon Kitna will get his first start in almost two years and he is better than whoever is at quarterback for the Jaguars. Dallas finally gets win number two.

Kansas City over Buffalo: The Chiefs are atop the AFC West and the Bills are in the basement of the AFC East. Bill's QB Ryan Fitzpatrick, also an Ex-Bengal, has played well, but the Buffalo is still 0-6. Chiefs have better and younger talent and will win at home.

St. Louis over Carolina: Even though Carolina won last week, they are still pretty bad. Rams QB Sam Bradford has been playing well and I like them at home.

Denver over San Francisco: The NFL will send the Broncos and 49ers across the Pond to London, England this Sunday, as the NFL tries to expand the game overseas. Their has been a game over in London for the past few seasons and it's a shame that the English have to watch the Broncos, who lost 59-14 last week, and the 49ers who are 1-6. I'll take the Broncos over the 49ers in London, because you know it's bad when San Francisco will be starting Troy Smith at quarterback.

NY Jets over Green Bay: The Packers have been hithard by the injury bug and that will be tough to overcome against, maybe the best team in the league, the Jets. New York is at home and they have been the best team in football since Week 1. J-E-T-S, Jets, win.

San Diego over Tennessee: Even though the Chargers are 2-5, they lead the league in passing and are the best at stopping the pass. Turnovers and penalties have doomed San Diego, sound familiar, cough, cough Bengals. Tennessee is coming off a victory against the Eagles, but the status of QB Vince Young is still uncertain. With a healthy Vince Young I would take the Titans, but if he's still not 100%, Philip Rivers and the Chargers will get it done this week.

Tampa Bay over Arizona: How the Cardinals are 3-3 is beyond me. Their quarterbacks are terrible and they have been outscored by 62 points. Tampa on the other hand, is 22nd in the league at running the football and 31st in the league at stopping it. Yet, they are 4-2. Can't figure these teams out, but give me the Buccaneers. Hard to win without having a good quarterback.

New England over Minnesota: Brett Favre's consecutive game streak might come to an end this week, as Favre is nursing an ankle injury. I still think Favre will play, but New England has been playing well since they traded Randy Moss, who will be on the other side line this week. Turnovers will doom Favre and the Vikings and the Patriots win.

Oakland over Seattle: As Chris Berman likes to say when he gets excited about Oakland, "The Raaaaaaaaaadiers." I'm excited because Oakland scored 59 points, that's right, 59 point last week. I can't even remember the last time they scored 30 points in a game, yet along 59. "The Raiders finally got Cable," a few year ago, another Berman saying since the Raiders head coach is Tom Cable, and now they might finally have a good offense. The Seahawks stink on the road and I like the Raiders to win in the Black Hole.

Pittsburgh over New Orleans: Until someone finds a way to beat the Steelers with Big Ben and that number defense in the league, they might not lose another game this season. The Saints lost to the Browns last week and it doesn't get any easier with the Steelers coming to town on Sunday Night. The Bayou will be hopping, but I like the Steelers. To win that is, I hate their team, but they are pretty damn good.

Indianapolis over Houston: The Texans were lucky to beat the Colts in Week 1 and Peyton Manning and the Colts never lose to the same team twice in the same year. The Colts will be without TE Dallas Clark for the rest of the season, which is a blow to the offense, but Peyton will still be able to spread the ball around. Colts win by a slim margin on Monday Night.

And...
Bengals over Miami: I'm giving the Bengals one more chance. It does seem like things are over at 2-4, but you never know. Every game for the past few weeks has been a must win game, well every game needs to be a must win game. No matter who you are playing or when you are playing them, as Herm Edwards says, "You play to win the game."

I don't care if Carson throws for 500 yards and the Bengals put up 42 points, because it doesn't matter if you don't win. If the Bengals can find a way to play an entire 60 minutes they might have a chance. They are banged up in the secondary with CB Adam Jones going on injured reserve, S Roy Williams is doubtful and S Chinedum Ndukwe and CB Jonathan Joseph are questionable. With all these injuries Moeller alum, CB Rico Murray, was signed off the practice squad and could see some playing time.

God only knows if the Bengals will win this week, but I think they can pull it out. All they have to do is not turn the ball over and don't commit stupid penalties. The Bengals will, repeat, will win a close one on Sunday, probably by no more than a field goal. WHO-DEY.
