NFL: Week 8

One word can describe my picks last week, awful. I was a pitiful 6-7 in Week 7 and that's worthy of a "C'mon Man."

I hope to do better in Week 8 and there are some very intriguing games this week with New England at Pittsburgh, Tebow taking on the Lions, and Dallas heading to Philly to take on the Eagles in an NFC East showdown. The Bengals head out west to Seattle and they kickoff my, hopefully correct, picks for Week 8 in the NFL.

Week 8 Picks (Home team in CAPS)

Bengals over SEATTLE: If anyone took time to watch the Seahawks last week, which would have been a waste if you ask me, then you probably realized that this is not the best team in football. They may not even be the best team in college football for that matter.

The Bengals are coming off a bye and will be looking to keep their three game winning streak alive Sunday in Seattle. Historically, the Bengals have struggled in Seattle losing three straight, but I think that streak comes to an end this week.

Andy Dalton almost ended up in Seattle, but I'm sure I speak for all Bengals fans when I say, I'm glad the "Red Rifle" is in Cincinnati. The Bengals are off to a great start and I truly think they can make the playoffs if continue to play like they have. RB Cedric Benson will be missed this week; he is serving a one game suspension for an off-season assault charge, so Bernard Scott will get the bulk of the carries.

The Bengals defense comes in as arguably one of the best defense in the league, while Seattle has one of the worst offenses in football. They are 31st in the league in rushing and are ranked 28th in passing. QB Tarvaris Jackson and RB Marshawn Lynch both miss last week game with a pectoral injury and back spasms respectively. Seattle will be much improved if both of those guys are back, but Mike Zimmer's second ranked defense will be ready.

Cincinnati has more talent on both sides of the ball and even though it's tough to win in rainy Seattle, Bengals keep the win streak alive. Rookie of the Year candidates Andy Dalton and A.J. Green, along with the surging defense help the Bengals improve to 5-2 and stay at the top of the AFC North. Bengals 27, Seahawks 13.

TENNESSEE over Indianapolis: How can anyone pick the Colts to win a football game after they lost by 55 on Monday night? Not this guy that's for sure. Titans get back on track after losing last week.

New Orleans over ST. LOUIS: Last week, New Orleans put up over 500-yards of offense and 62 points against the Colts, while St. Louis gave up 253-yards rushing to Dallas RB DeMarco Murray. Saints won't put up the same kind of numbers they did on Sunday night, but they might come close.

NY GIANTS over Miami: It's just not Miami's year. They had a 15 point lead with under six minutes to go against Tim Tebow and the Denver Broncos, but they squandered the lead and lost 18-15 in overtime. The Giants are one of the best teams in the NFC and help Miami keep pace in the Andrew Luck sweepstakes.

CAROLINA over Minnesota: Vikings rookie QB Christian Ponder looked pretty good against the Packers last week and Minnesota might finally have found their guy. The Vikings still aren't having a very good season though. Neither are the Panthers. However, the play of Cam Newton has been something to get excited about in Carolina. I like Newton to help the Panthers get their third win of the season.

BALTIMORE over Arizona: Baltimore won't repeat their horrific performance on offense from Monday night, they just won't. It's hard to have less than 16-yards of offense at halftime twice in the same week. Arizona is reeling and the Kevin Kolb trade has not worked out like they had hoped. The Ravens are 3-0 at home this season and I think they remain unbeaten at home.

HOUSTON over Jacksonville: The Jaguars offense was terrible Monday night against Baltimore and they are going to need more than four Josh Scobee field goals to beat the Texans. Houston will still be without WR Andre Johnson who is still suffering from a hamstring injury. The Jacksonville defense is good, but theTexans offense managed to put up 41 on Tennessee last week.

BUFFALO over Washington: Buffalo and Washington are headed to Toronto this weekend where the Bills will be looking to improve to 5-2. According to ESPN, Buffalo has not loss to Washington since Super Bowl XXVI in 1992 and that's reason enough for me to pick Buffalo. Not a very good one, but Washington has a lot of injuries and their offense has struggled in the recent weeks.

Detroit over DENVER: Tebow vs. Stafford, part three. Tim Tebow and Matthew Stafford faced each other twice while at Florida and Georgia, respectively, and they will meet once again Sunday in Denver. Tebow lead a heroic comeback last week in Miami and although it was not pretty, the Broncos got the win.

Stafford and the Lions last their second straight game last week and he suffered an ankle injury late in the game. Stafford is expected to play, but if not Shaun Hill will be the starting quarterback. Tebow may be the talk of the NFL, but I like the Lions to rebound with a win.

SAN FRANCISCO over Cleveland: Once again, did you see the Seattle/Cleveland game last week? As ESPN 1530's Mo Egger said about the game, "It was unwatchable." The 49ers are 5-1 and I think they pound the Browns after still being hyped up from their victory over the Lions two week ago. It will be interesting to see, however, how Jim Harbaugh handles the postgame handshake this week.

New England over PITTSBURGH: The "Big Ketchup Bottle" plays host to two of the league's best teams. The Patriots and Steelers come in a combined 10-3 and both are in first place in their respective divisions. The matchup of the weekend will be Tom Brady and the Patriots number one ranked offense going up against the number one ranked Steelers defense.

Pittsburgh has won three in a row and Ben Roethlisberger has played very well the past few weeks. Big Ben and the Steelers offense should have success against the Patriots defense that ranks 32nd against the pass, but it will not be enough. I like Tom Brady and the Pats to win a close one in the Steel City.

Game of the Week
PHILADELPHIA over Dallas: Big game in the City of Brotherly Love Sunday Night. Dallas is 3-3, Philadelphia is 2-4, and the winner of this game takes a big leap forward, while the loser takes a giant step back. If the Eagles lose and fall to 2-5, it's going to be very hard to back in the NFC East race. Dallas does not have as much to lose if they were to fall to Philly, but things would sure be a lot easier with a win. Andy Reid is undefeated as a head coach after a bye week, and with the Eagles at home, I'll take Philadelphia.

San Diego over KANSAS CITY: The Chiefs were aided in last week's 28-0 win over Oakland with six Raiders interceptions, in which two were returned for touchdowns. Philip Rivers may not be having a very good season, but I do not see him throwing six INT's this week.

Last Week: 6-7
Overall: 70-33
