NFL 2012: Week 7 Picks

Last week was a historic week in Cincinnati. Not only did the Cincinnati Reds blow a two games to none lead in the NLDS and the Cincinnati Bengals lose to a winless Cleveland Browns team, but I went 5-9 in picks. Yikes. An absolute debacle by both Cincinnati professional sports team and by yours truly.

Now, I'm tied with a very beautiful girl in a bet to see who is better at picking NFL games. I'm stepping up my game this week and hoping to build an insurmountable lead.

Here are my picks, hopefully the correct ones this time, for Week 7 in the NFL. Bengals/Steelers prediction saved for the end, of course.

Week 7 Picks (Home team in CAPS)

SAN FRANCISCO over Seattle: 49ers respond with a win after last week's very disappointing loss to the Giants.

is the league's most valuable player by throwing for six touchdowns passes

Green Bay over ST. LOUIS: Aaron Rodgers and the Packers proved on Monday night that they still are a force to be reckoned with in the NFL.

BUFFALO over Tennessee: Buffalo has had some very ugly games this season, but at 3-3 they are in a four way tie for first place in the AFC East.

INDIANAPOLIS over Cleveland: Even though the Browns got their first win of the season last week against the Bengals, I'm not impressed. Colts get the win at home.

NY GIANTS over Washington: The Giants might be 4-2, but I think they are one of the best teams in football. RG3 will keep it interesting though.

New Orleans over TAMPA BAY: Drew Brees will be well rested after the bye week and I expect him to throw for at least 400-yards and three touchdowns.

Dallas over CAROLINA: Both of these teams have been big disappointments thus far this season, but I like the Cowboys on Sunday.

HOUSTON over Baltimore: The Ravens have been hit hard with injuries and it's going to be hard for them to replace Ray Lewis on the field and in the locker room. Houston will rebound after getting embarrassed at home on Monday night by Aaron Rodgers and the Packers.

MINNESOTA over Arizona: QB Kevin Kolb is out with a rib injury, so John Skelton will start at quarterback for the Cardinals, which won't help as the Vikings get the win at home.

NEW ENGLAND over NY Jets: The Jets looked really good last week, but I'm still not sold on Mark Sanchez and the Jets. The Patriots on the other hand, are one of the best teams in the NFL.

OAKLAND over Jacksonville: These teams come in a combined 2-8, so if there is such a thing as a meaningless game in October, this might qualify. The Jaguars have to make the long trip out west to Oakland, so that favors the Raiders.

CHICAGO over Detroit: Megatron and the Lions could really use a win against the Bears to stay in the hunt in the NFC North, but I just don't see it happening Monday night. Detroit has not played like they did last season and with Megatron being on the cover of the world's most popular football video game, one has to wonder if the Madden curse has continued.

BENGALS over Steelers: Last week's loss to the Cleveland Browns was pitiful. One could argue that the Bengals played worse against the Browns than they did at the start of the season getting blown out by the Ravens on Monday night. As bad as the loss was, though, the Bengals are still 3-3 and in the thick of things in the AFC playoff picture. 14 of the 16 teams in the AFC are .500 or worse, so the Bengals are still in good shape and a win against the Steelers on Sunday night would surely give the Bengals some momentum as the head into the bye week.

Now the Bengals, in fact any Cincinnati professional sports team for that matter, never play very good when they are on national television. Just go back to week one when the Bengals were on Monday Night Football. That was a complete debacle and yet another poor performance in front of an entire nation. However, the Steelers are 2-3 and have yet to win a game on the road. Safety Troy Polamalu is out and the Steelers have several key players who will not be playing at 100%.

There are going to be a lot of Steelers fan down at PBS, yet again when aren't there, but The Jungle will be rocking. I think the Bengals can beat those much hated Steelers and go into the bye week at 4-3. Bengals 21, Steelers 20.

Byes: Atlanta, Denver, Kansas City, Miami, Philadelphia, San Diego

Last Week: 5-9
Overall: 53-38
