NFL 2012: Week 14 Picks

Group projects and exams at the end of the semester may carry the same level of excitement as watching the Cardinals and Jets play football, but winter break and the NFL playoffs are almost there, so try and hang in there. Four teams have clinched playoff berths thus far -- Atlanta in the NFC, Denver, New England and Houston in the AFC -- so eight spots still remain and the Bengals are hoping to be one of those teams.

A lot to do for school this week, but that would never stop me from making my picks for the greatest sport in the world. Because at the end of the day, which is really most important? Here are quite short, yet hopefully still correct, picks for Week 14 in the NFL.

Week 14 Picks (Home team in CAPS)

Denver over OAKLAND: Denver already clinched the AFC West, so now they have their eyes set on a first round bye.

St. Louis over BUFFALO: The Rams played the 49ers very tough last week and were able to pull off an overtime win, which gives me reason enough to pick them on Sunday in Buffalo.

CLEVELAND over Kansas City: Both these teams are bad, but I'll take the Browns at home.

INDIANAPOLIS over Tennessee: Andrew Luck has been fun to watch and I can't wait to watch in him the playoffs as the Colts continue to impress.

Chicago over MINNESOTA: At 6-6, the Vikings need a win to keep their playoff hopes alive and I expect to see RB Adrian Peterson get a boat load of carries. If Chicago can stop Peterson, and not many teams have this season, they'll win.

TAMPA BAY over Philadelphia: Nick Foles will remain the starting quarterback in Philadelphia for the rest of the season, which means the Michael Vick era has officially come to an end.

WASHINGTON over Baltimore: If the Ravens can't win at home against the Pittsburgh Steelers, who were without Ben Roethlisberger, then they surely aren't beating RG3 and the Redskins on the road.

Atlanta over CAROLINA: Atlanta improves to 12-1 and gets closer to clinching a first round bye.

NY Jets over JACKSONVILLE: Mark Sanchez will be at quarterback when the Jets take the field this Sunday in Jacksonville. Whether he will remain there for the whole game is a different question. As bad as the Jets are, the Jaguars are pretty bad too. So, I'll take New York and I hope Rex Ryan lets Tim Tebow play in his native Jacksonville.

PITTSBURGH over San Diego: Big Ben is back at quarterback and that is really good news for the Steelers.

SAN FRANCISCO over Miami: Colin Kaepernick will once again get the start at quarterback and I think the 49ers will rebound from last week's overtime loss to the Rams.

SEATTLE over Arizona: There is no player I feel more sorry for in this league than Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald. He is an unbelievable player and not one of the three quarterbacks on his team can get him the football. Seattle wins again as they get closer to clinching a playoff spot.

NY GIANTS over New Orleans: Tough loss for the Giants on Monday Night Football last week against RG3 and the Redskins, but I think they will score just enough points to outscore Drew Brees and the Saints.

GREEN BAY over Detroit: Megatron is on pace to break Jerry Rice's single-season receiving record, unfortunately that's the only thing to get excited about in Detroit these days. Packers win a high scoring game.

Houston over NEW ENGLAND: Possible AFC Championship Preview? Great Monday Night Football matchup and I believe this won't be the only time we see these two teams on the same field. On Monday though, I like the Texans in a very close one up in Foxborough.

BENGALS over Cowboys: With only four games left to play, the Bengals can't afford a letdown this week against the Cowboys. Pittsburgh somehow managed to win at Baltimore last week with Charlie Batch and quarterback, which means the Bengals are still tied with the Steelers for the final playoff spot in the AFC.

Dallas has been playing for their playoff lives the last couple of weeks and they basically need to win out in order to make the playoffs. QB Tony Romo and the Cowboys have been up and down this season, but I expect them to give the Bengals all they can handle.

Dallas' offensive line has struggled all season and if the Bengals terrific defensive line can get pressure on Romo, I think the Bengals win this football game. Bengals keep their playoff hopes alive and the Cowboys playoff hopes come to an end on Sunday. Bengals 27, Cowboys 17.

This Week: 1-0
Last Week: 10-6
Overall: 128-65
