NFL: Week 10 Recap

Even though it's football season, a Marty Brennaman phrase just about sums it up when it comes to watching the Bengals lose their sixth straight game. As Marty would say, "It's a sad, but true tale." The Bengals just continue to shoot themselves in the foot and these self inflicted wounds end up being too much to overcome. The 5 turnovers in the game were huge, when are they not, and they ended up costing the Bengals the game. It's hard to win every week when you not only have to beat the other team, but also yourself.

I give a lot of credit to Chad and Gresham though this week as they both gave 110%. Ochocinco (7 rec, 86 yds, TD) hurt his shoulder in the game, but continued to play well and some of the catches he made in the game were nothing short of spectacular. Gresham (9 rec, 80 yds, TD) did have the costly fumble at the end of the game, but at least he was trying to get a couple extra yards to help his team win the game. But these moral victories, if you will, mean absolutely nothing if you don't win the game. As for Palmer and T.O.'s performances, they were "C'mon Man" worthy and more on them below.

Bengals are now 2-7, Mike Brown now has 201 losses as owner, and more to come I'm sure. The good news is, Reds pitchers and catchers report for Spring Training in three months.

Now for the performances in Week 10 that were worthy of a "Holy Crap" or "C'mon Man." And their were a lot of them.

"Holy Crap"
ATL-WR Roddy White: 12 rec, 138 yds, 2 TD. Is anyone going to cover this guy? In his last three games, White has 27 receptions, for 338 yards and 4 TD.

ATL-QB Matt Ryan: 32-50, 316 yds, 3 TD; QB Rating 101.8. Ryan and White are emerging as the best quarterback/receiver duo in the NFL.

BUF-RB Fred Jackson: 25 car, 133 yds, TD; 6 rec, 37 yds, TD. Jackson helped lead the Bills to their first victory of the season.

HOU-QB Matt Schaub: 22-32, 314 yds, 2 TD; QB Rating 121.1

HOU-WR Andre Johnson: 9 rec, 146 yds, TD

JAC-QB David Garrard: 24-31, 342 yds, 2 TD; QB Rating 134.1

JAC-RB Maurice Jones-Drew: 24 car, 100 yds, 2 TD. A great game between Jacksonville and Houston, as the Jaguars won on a last second Hail Mary.

TB-QB Josh Freeman: 18-24, 241 yds, 2 TD; QB Rating 134.2. Freeman and the Buccaneers are now 6-3 and still in the thick of things in the NFC.

KC-QB Matt Cassel: 33-53, 469 yds, 4 TD; QB Rating 116.0

KC-WR Dwayne Bowe: 13 rec, 186 yds, 2 TD

DEN-QB Kyle Orton: 22-34, 296 yds, 4 TD; QB Rating 131.5. A lot of scoring in the Kansas City/Denver game, as the teams combined for 936 yards of offense and 78 points in the Broncos win.

DAL-QB Jon Kitna and the Cowboys: Kitna played well, (13-22, 327 yds, 3 TD, INT; QB Rating 124.1) and the Cowboys won their first game under interim head coach Jason Garrett.

SF-QB Troy Smith: 17-28, 356 yds, TD; QB Rating 116.7. The 49ers are 2-0 with Troy Smith under center and despite the bad start, are still in the NFC West race.

NE-QB Tom Brady: 30-43, 350 yds, 3 TD; QB Rating 117.4. Brady and the Pats put up 39 points and 453 yards of offense in a win against the Steelers.

PIT-WR Mike Wallace: 8 rec, 136 yds, 2 TD

PHI-QB Michael Vick: The "Holy Crap" player of the week. 20-28, 333 yds, 4 TD, QB Rating 150.7; 8 car, 80 yds, 2 TD. The best performance all year and one of the best performances you will ever see. If Vick continues to play like this, he will not only win MVP, but the Eagles will win the Super Bowl. "Holy Crap" it's good to see Michael Vick dominate a football game again.

"C'mon Man"
CIN-QB Carson Palmer: 31-42, 287 yds, 2 TD, 3 INT; QB Rating 78.2. I have always really liked Carson, he is a really good guy and a very talented player, but I don't know what happen to the guy that led the Bengals to the playoffs in 2005. He has never been the same since tearing up his knee in the playoff game against Pittsburgh and the injuries he has taken over the years are catching up to him. Not having a good offensive line to protect your star player is critical. The Bengals line has been terrible for years and it probably has cost Palmer his career, which is a shame.

Palmer's three picks, including one being returned for a touchdown, really hurt the Bengals Sunday. Palmer continues to hurt his team with turnovers and you just can't do that in the NFL. Bengals fans are going to continue to call for his head and I really feel for the guy, because he really is a good player. He won the Heisman Trophy at USC and was one of the top five quarterbacks in the league a few years ago. Who knows what kind of career Palmer would have had had he ended up somewhere else than Cincinnati. My guess would be, probably better.

CIN-WR Terrell Owens: Dammit T.O., what the Hell man. Once again T.O pulled up on a ball that was intercepted, he did the same thing against Miami, and it's unacceptable. Who cares if your going to get hit, its the NFL, not flag football. T.O. has played great at times this year and has had a good career, but he will never be in the conversation as one of the best wide receivers to ever play the game. A receiver should never pull up on balls and not give a full effort on every play. Jerry Rice never gave up on a ball and neither should T.O., "C'mon Man."

Detroit Lions: Not only did they lose to the winless Bills, but set the NFL record for losing their 25th straight road game. The Lions are almost as bad, maybe even worse, than the Bengals.

MIN-QB Brett Favre: 18-31, 170 yds, TD, 3 INT; QB Rating 44.5. The Vikings season, and maybe Favre's career, are over.

Indiana University Football Team: The "C'mon Man" performers usually come from the NFL, but this week I have to give a big "C'mon Man" to the Indiana football team. On Saturday, the Hoosiers gave up 83 points to the Wisconsin Badgers. The 83-20 loss was the highest scoring Big Ten game, in the last 60 years. Indiana has never been known for their football team, but my God. A Big Ten team giving up 83 points is just ridiculous, I mean Portland State only gave up 72 when they played Oregon and their not even in the FBS. I would not want to be a defensive player in the Indiana film room this week. "C'mon Hoosiers."

A very interesting week of football and the surprises just keep on coming. Bears and Dolphins kick off Week 11 on Thursday.
