NFL: Week 8 Recap

As Vince Lombardi use to say, "What the Hell is going on out there?" That just about sums it when it comes to the 2010 Cincinnati Bengals season. At 2-5, the Bengals season is pretty much over. They could still win out and finish 11-5, or get on a hot streak and finish above .500. Stranger things have happened, but I really doubt it. A brutal schedule remains with the first place Pittsburgh Steelers coming to Cincinnati next week to play on Monday Night Football.

I could complain about the offense, the play calling, the defense, turnovers, penalties, Marvin Lewis, Mike Brown, but what's the point. Until changes are made in the front office, you could have Vince Lombardi coaching, and I still don't think the Bengals would be any good. Maybe if fans stop coming to the games and Mike Brown's wallet isn't as full, he will finally get the point and sell the team or retire. That day just can't come soon enough.

As frustrating as it is to be a Bengals fan, I still can't imagine rooting for anyone else. No matter how good or bad the Cincinnati Bengals are, I will always be a fan, but it sure is getting a lot harder. The expectations for this season were so high, and after only 7 games, those expectations are laughable and a distant memory. Maybe the Bengals will come out and play with some pride Monday night. However, it's on national television and for the sports team in Cincinnati, that's a death sentence.

Now for the Week 8 edition of "Holy Crap," and "C'mon Man."

"Holy Crap"
JAC-QB David Garrard:17-21, 260 yds, 5 total TD (Rush TD); QB Rating 157.8

JAC-WR Mike Sims-Walker: 8 rec, 135 yds, TD

Green Bay Packers Defense: Despite the numerous amount of injuries, they allowed 360 yards of total offense, but forced 3 turnovers and shut out the Jets, in New York, for a 9-0 victory.

DEN-WR Brandon Lloyd: 7 rec, 159 yds, TD

SF-QB Troy Smith: 12-19, 196 yds, TD and Rush TD; QB Rating 115.2

DET-QB Matthew Stafford: 26-45, 212 yds, 4 TD, INT; QB Rating 90.2. Good game for Stafford in his first game since injuring his shoulder.

DET-WR Calvin Johnson: 9 rec, 101 yds, 3 TD

KC-RB Jamaal Charles: 22 car, 177 yds

TB-RB LaGarrette Blount: 22 car, 120 yds, 2 TD

TB-CB Aqib Talib: 5 tackles and 2 INT, returned one pick for a touchdown and the other one sealed the win.

NE-RB BenJarvus Green-Ellis: 17 car, 112 yds, 2 TDs

OAK-QB Jason Campbell: 15-27, 310 yds, 2 TD, QB Rating 120.9; The Raiders continue their dominating performance on offense by putting up 545 total yards and 33 points on the Seahawks. "Holy Crap."

"C'mon Man"
DAL-QB Jon Kitna: 34-49, 379 yds, TD, 4 INT; QB Rating 64.9. The season for Dallas just continues to get worse.

NYJ-QB Mark Sanchez: 16-38, 256 yds, 2 INT; QB Rating 63.3, the Jets put up 360 yards of total offense against the Packers, but were shut out 9-0.

Arizona quarterbacks Max Hall and Derek Anderson: Hall 8-16, 71 yds, TD, 2 INT, QB Rating 43.5; Anderson: 16-24, 234 yds, TD, 2 INT, QB Rating 77.4; Two of those picks were returned for touchdowns, as the Cardinals lost to the Buccaneers 38-35 and fell to 3-4.

WSH-Head Coach Mike Shanahan: I have always had a ton of respect for Mike Shanahan, but I lost most of it on Sunday. After falling behind to the Detroit Lions, Shanahan decides to pull starting QB Donovon McNabb in favor of Rex Grossman. What, the, Hell? The Redskins are in their two minute offense trying to come back after blowing the lead, and McNabb gets benched. Why, because Grossman has a better understand of the formations for the two minute offense. That was Shanahan's excuse for pulling McNabb. Give me a break. No disrespect to Grossman, but he is not, and never will be, the caliber quarterback that McNabb is. If you don't trust your start quarterback to run the two minute offense, than something is seriously wrong. I don't know what else to say. McNabb's contract is up at the end of the year and after the incident on Sunday, I doubt he will back with the Redskins next year. I know I wouldn't.

Minnesota Vikings: A few week ago, Minnesota traded a third round pick to the New England Patriots for future Hall of Famer WR Randy Moss, and now he's gone. I don't understand why you would trade your third round draft for a guy and then waive him a few weeks later. It just doesn't make any sense. The Vikings are a mess and much like the Cowboys and Bengals, things just keep getting worse.

It's been a strange year of football and who knows what will unfold next week.
