NFL: Week 9

The second half of the NFL season starts on Sunday and much like the Bengals, I'm looking for a fresh start. I went 14-13, the last two weeks with my picks, 7-6 last week, to bring my season total to 66-51. Week 9 features a couple of duds, like Patriots vs. Browns and Arizona vs. Minnesota, but still some intriguing games. For example, Kansas City vs. Oakland and Tampa Bay vs. Atlanta being games featuring the top two teams in their respective divisions. Didn't think I would be saying that in Week 9. The Bengals play on Monday Night, which gives the nation a chance to see how bad they are, but they did beat the Pittsburgh Steelers twice last year and I might just pick them to win this week. Before that game, the rest of my Week 9 picks.

Week 9 Picks
Atlanta over Tampa Bay: Even though Raheem Morris' Buccaneers are 5-2 and they might think they are the best team in the NFC, their not. Atlanta has too much fire power on offense and in my opinion, and is one of the top two teams in the NFC.

Buffalo over Chicago: That's right the Buffalo Bills will get their first win of the season Sunday, against the Bears, in Toronto. The Bills are playing harder than any other team in the league and the Bears have been on a downward spiral since starting 4-1. Cutler will probably throw some costly interceptions that will help the Bills get win number one.

New England over Cleveland: The Patriots have the best record in the league at 6-1 and the Browns are tied with the Bengals at the bottom of the AFC North with a 2-5 record. QB Colt McCoy will start again for the Browns, but Tom Brady and the Pats win again.

NY Jets over Detroit: QB Mark Sanchez and the Jets were shutout by the Packers and I will be stunned if they are shutout again. The Lions have been better than advertised, but the Jets are one of the top five teams in the league and they get the win on the road.

New Orleans over Carolina: Drew Brees and the Saints are coming off a victory over the Steelers and if they can beat Pittsburgh, they surely can beat the Panthers. Saints will big.

Baltimore over Miami: Wasn't that impressed with Miami against the Bengals last week, and even though Baltimore lost to Cincinnati, they are a much better football team. Ray Lewis and the Ravens defense will play well and lead the Ravens to a victory.

San Diego over Houston: There's a great possibility that this will be the best game on Sunday. Houston's pass defense is terrible and QB Philip Rivers and the Chargers offense are number in the league in passing and have the number total offense. Despite their 3-5 record and being 0-4 on the road this season, I like the Chargers to out score the Texans in a old style shootout in the Lone Star State.

Minnesota over Arizona: The Vikings dumped WR Randy Moss, who is now a Titan, and try to turn their season around against the Cardinals. QB Brett Favre got knocked out of the game last week, but I think his streak will continue at 293 consecutive games. Arizona's quarterback situation is a mess and as bad as Favre plays sometimes, I will take him any day of the week over who ever Arizona has under center. Vikings crush the Cardinals at home.

NY Giants over Seattle: The Seahawks got blasted last week by the Raiders and if they get beat that bad by Oakland, imagine what the New York Football Giants will do to them on Sunday. Eli and the G-Men get the win on Sunday.

Indianapolis over Philadelphia: Week 9's Game of the Week. Peyton Manning and the Colts go into the City of Brotherly Love to face Michael Vick and the Eagles. Two very good teams, led by two good quarterbacks and this one will not disappoint. Vick will be starting his first game since missing some time with a rib injury and it will be interesting to see if Vick continues play like he did earlier in the season. Vick actually has a higher QB rating than Manning, but Peyton is the better quarterback and has the better offense. Going to be a close one, but I like Manning and the Colts to knock off Vick and the Eagles on Sunday.

Oakland over Kansas City: The Raaaaaaaaaaaaaiders, my most surprising team of the first half, are in the thick of things in the AFC West. Division leader Kansas City, is also a surprise team and have played very well this season, but I like the Raiders. They have a very good offense, never thought I would say that, and a underrated defense. The Raiders are a tough team to beat at home, because they have Cable and have scored 92 points in the last two games, they win on Sunday.

Green Bay over Dallas: At the beginning of the season, this probably was one of the marquee matchups for the upcoming year. Now, not so much. The Cowboys are 1-6 and without QB Tony Romo, they have very little chance to beat the Packers at Lambeau Field.

And...
Cincinnati over Pittsburgh: The Bengals flat out stink, but I just can't pick the Steelers. I hate them more than anything else in life and their is no way I'm picking them to beat my Bengals on Monday Night Football (MNF). If you remember last year when the Bengals were good, they went 6-0 in the division and beat the Steelers twice. For some reason the Bengals get more fired up for the Ravens and Steelers. They should get fired up for every game, but for some reason they usually give the Ravens and Steelers a competitive game.

If the Bengals play like they did in their only good game this year, week two against Baltimore, they can beat the Steelers. A commitment to the running game, I would give the ball to Cedric Benson 30 times and let him carry this team. He is the only guy on the team worthy of going to the Pro Bowl, maybe besides K Mike Nugent, and when he runs the ball effectively, the Bengals win.

If the Bengals don't commit stupid penalties, limit the turnovers, play with some toughness on the offensive and defensive lines and physically out play the Steelers, the Bengals can win. A lot of things need to be done in order to win, maybe too many, but at 2-5 all the Bengals have to play for is pride. The season might be over, but knocking off their arch rivals, the Pittsburgh Steelers, on national television, would make the season.

This is the Bengals Super Bowl, no bigger stage during the season than on MNF. C'mon Bengals, play with some god damn pride and let's try not to embarrass ourselves in front of the entire country. WHO-DEY.
