NFL: Week 14 Recap

We've seen this before. The Bengals come out strong and played well at times, but once again the inability to play a full 60 minutes and costly turnovers by QB Carson Palmer, extended the Bengals losing streak to 10. That's right 10 straight losses. That tied the franchise record for most consecutive losses, which is really sad because the Bengals have had a lot of losing seasons. And the theirs still three games to go.

After the first drive, which resulted in a touchdown catch by offensive tackle Andrew Whitworth, the offense was ineffective, but the defense kept them in the game. The defense played very well, they got pressure on Ben Roethlisberger (4 sacks and 8 QB hits) and he took some tremendous shots. Seeing Ben in pain was great to see as a Bengals fans and some of the young guys up front like, Carlos Dunlap (3 tackles, 3 pass defended) Geno Atkins (2 QB hits) and Michael Johnson (3 tackles, 1 sack) have very bright futures, but it's still another loss. No moral victories when your 2-11.

Carson Palmer threw three interceptions, two to Troy Polamalu, who returned one for a score, and the other to LaMarr Woodley who also ran it back for a score. The defense gave up only 9 points and Palmer gave up 14 by himself. Palmer has now thrown 18 interceptions, which is tied with Brett Favre and Drew Brees for the league lead. A team can't win, when your quarterback plays like this. More on Palmer in "C'mon Man."

At this point the Bengals will probably not win another game and it might be in their best interest not to, because that would result in a higher draft pick. With Buffalo and Detroit winning, they improve to 3-10, while the Bengals have the second worst record in the league at 2-11, with Carolina being the worst at 1-12.

It has been a very disappointing season and I'm sure I speak for most Bengals fans when I say, I'm ready for the season to be over. Please Bengals, draft Cam Newton with the number two overall pick in April and let's look ahead to 2011. And hire a GM. Thanks.

Now the Week 14 edition of "Holy Crap" and "C'mon Man."

"Holy Crap"
IND-QB Peyton Manning: 25-35, 319 yds, 2 TD; QB Rating 118.6. Manning kept the Colts playoff hopes alive with a win Thursday in Tennessee.

TEN-RB Chris Johnson: 23 car, 111 yds, TD; 8 rec, 68 yds

OAK-RB Darren McFadden: 16 car, 123 yds, 2 TD; 3 rec, 86 yds TD. Had him in on my fantasy team this time.

JAC-RB Maurice Jones-Drew: 23 car, 101 yds, TD and that touchdown ended up being the game winner in a wild 38-31 victory over the Oakland Raiders.

WSH-RB Ryan Torain: 24 car, 172 yds

ATL-RB Michael Turner: 28 car, 112 yds, 3 TD

ARI-K Jay Feely: 5-6 on field goals, 4-4 on extra points and also ran for a score. All in all, responsible for 25 of Arizona's 43 points. That's a great day for a kicker, "Holy Crap."

ARI-RB Tim Hightower: 18 car, 148 yds, 2 TD

San Diego Chargers: Held the Kansas City Chiefs to only 67 yards of total offense and put up 426 yards of their own, in a 31-0 blowout.

New England Patriots: Another lopsided victory, with a 36-7 beating of the Chicago Bears in a blizzard. QB Tom Brady (27-40, 369 yds, 2 TD; QB Rating 113.4) and receivers Deion Branch (8 rec 151 yds, TD) and Wes Welker (8 rec, 115 yds, TD) had no problem moving the ball in the snow, as the Patriots put up 36 points and 475 yards on the Bears. The Patriots clinched a playoff berth with the win and continue to look like the best team in the NFL.

SF-QB Alex Smith: 17-27, 255 yds, 3 TD; QB Rating 130.9. After being benched and being hurt, Smith returned and played very well, keeping the 49ers playoff hopes alive.

PHI-WR DeSean Jackson: 4 rec, 210 yds, TD. The guy can flat out fly and to think the Bengals passed on him in the draft in favor of, Jerome Simpson. That hasn't exactly worked out.

HOU-WR Andre Johnson: 9 rec, 140 yds, 2 TD

The Weather for the Patriots/Bears Game: A blizzard in the Windy City, with snow falling throughout the game, wind chill in the teens, and wind gusts up to 50 mph. Great football weather.

MIN-QB Brett Favre: The streak is over. After 297 consecutive starts at quarterback, Brett Favre was inactive for the Vikings game Monday night against the NY Giants in Detroit. The game was moved from Minneapolis to Detroit, after the roof collapsed at the Metrodome over the weekend. Many people get tired of hearing about Favre and just want him to retire, but the guy is one Hell of a football player. To start 297 consecutive games in one of the most physical sports in the world is truly remarkable. Favre has taken so many hard hits and has fought through numerous injuries in his career and it's just amazing that he has not missed a game since 1992. It is not yet known if Favre will play again this season or ever again for that matter, but one thing is for sure, Brett Favre is the gutsiest quarterback ever and one of the best quarterbacks ever play the game.

"C'mon Man"
Carolina Panthers: Just abysmal at 1-12. "C'mon Man." With the first overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft the Carolina Panthers select...

Washington Redskins Special Teams: With a chance to tie the game at 17, the Redskins botched the snap on the extra point attempt and loss to Tampa Bay 17-16. Snapper Nick Sundberg's high snap on a wet field, went through the hands of holder Hunter Smith and ended any chance of the Redskins forcing overtime. The ever importance of special teams.

CIN-QB Carson Palmer: 20-32, 178 yds, TD, 3 INT; QB Rating 48.7. As much as I like Carson Palmer, I think his time in Cincinnati needs to come to an end. I have a ton of respect for the guy, it's not easy putting up to with the personalities of Chad Ochocinco and Terrell Owens. Plus, I feel for anyone who plays for Mike Brown. But the fact of the matter is, it's just not working out. If I were Mike Brown, I would try and trade Carson and draft a quarterback with your second pick in the draft, preferably Cam Newton, but who knows what the Bengals will do. If I were Palmer, I sure would like a fresh start. He's still a talented player and there are several teams that would like to have him. I wish Carson the best of luck and we can only wonder how his career might have turned out had he not been in Cincinnati. Just another great player who had his talent wasted by the Cincinnati Bengals.

SEA-QB Matt Hasselbeck: 27-42, 285 yds, 2 TD, 4 INT; QB Rating 60.2

Chicago Bears and QB Jay Cutler: Cutler (12-26, 152 yds, 2 INT; QB Rating 32.9) and the Bears couldn't figure it out in the snow against the Pats. So, much for home field advantage.

MIA-QB Chad Henne: 5-18, 55 yds, TD; QB Rating 58.3. And the Dolphins still managed to win the game, remarkable. C'mon Henne.

NYJ-QB Mark Sanchez: 17-44, 216 yds, INT; QB Rating 45.3 and 4 fumbles (1 lost). Another terrible game from Sanchez, as the Jets lose their second in a row, 10-6 to Miami.

DEN-QB Kyle Orton: 19-41, 166 yds, 3 INT; QB Rating 27.1. The second bad game in a row for Orton, might be time to let Tim Tebow play some snaps.

Jets Strength and Conditioning Coach Sal Alosi: On a punt, Alosi intentionally tripped CB Nolan Carroll as he ran out of bonds on punt coverage. "C'mon Man." That's just unacceptable, read more about what some of the Dolphins players had to say about the incident at http://sports.espn.go.com/new-york/nfl/news/story?id=5913168. I just can't believe a guy would do that.

Week 15 gets started on Thursday with the San Francisco vs. San Diego with only three weeks remaining. We're in the home stretch and there is still a lot of good football to be played as the playoff races heat up.
