NFL: Week 16 Recap

"Holy Crap, Holy Crap, Holy Crap." The Bengals were suppose to lose their remaining two games, but who would have thought, Bengals 34, Chargers 20 on Sunday. I thought Christmas was over, but what another great gift from the Bengals, a second straight win. The offense played well, Carson and Jerome Simpson in particularly, the defense was able to stop Philip Rivers and it resulted in a win.

No T.O. and no Ochocinco might have been cause for concern, but the young nucleus of receivers, Simpson, Caldwell, Shipley and Gresham were able to step up and Palmer was able to throw four touchdowns. The young guys on defense also played well, like Carlos Dunlap getting yet another sack, Rey Maualuga with 5 tackles and a interception, and Geno Atkins with two more hits on the quarterback.

Not to say that the Bengals don't need to go out and get some better players, because they do, but these young players do give the Bengals some hope for the future. If the Bengals go out and hire a head coach like Jon Gruden and give him total control they have a chance to turn things around. Giving your head coach total control and maybe even hiring a G.M., will limit the amount of things Mike Brown is involved in, which surely will result in improvements. Draft some players to beef up the offensive line, maybe another receiver, a linebacker or two, then a safety and corner and we will be in business.

Right now I would keep Carson Palmer and commit to not only him, but to winning. Get him a better offensive line, a new head coach and a new offensive coordinator and we should see Carson Palmer return to the 2005 Palmer that lead the Bengals to the playoffs. Not an easy task I know, but believe it or not, their is still some hope and potential in the Cincinnati Bengals.

"Holy Crap"
Cincinnati Bengals: Improved the record to 4-11 and with no Chad and no T.O. WR Jerome Simpson came into the game with 3 catches in his career and had the game of his life with 6 Rec, 126 Yds, 2 TD. It took him 3 years to figure it out, but maybe it's finally starting to pay off. QB Carson Palmer (16/21, 269 Yds, 4 TD; QB Rating 157.2) had his best game of the season and might have saved his job in the process. Still 4-11, but a two game winning streak is nice to see.

NE-QB Tom Brady: 15/27, 140 Yds, 3 TD; QB Rating 107 and he set the NFL record with 319 consecutive passes thrown without an interception. Plus, the Patriots clinched home-field advantage throughout the playoffs.

KC-QB Matt Cassel: 24/34, 314 Yds, 3 TD; QB Rating 128.8

KC-WR Dwayne Bowe: 6 Rec, 153 Yds, TD. Cassel and Bowe helped lead the Chiefs to their 10th win of the season and the AFC West crown.

CHI-RB Matt Forte: 19 Car, 113 Yds, TD; 4 Rec, 56 Yds

DEN-QB Tim Tebow: 16/29, 308 Yds, TD, Int; QB Rating 89.4; 10 Car, 27 Yds, TD. The Broncos are now 2-0 with Tebow as the starter and if they can get a good head coach in there and improve the defense, Tebow can lead the Broncos back to the playoffs.

GB-QB Aaron Rodgers: 25/37, 404 Yds, 4 TD; QB Rating 139.9

GB-WR Greg Jennings: 7 Rec, 142 Yds

TB-QB Josh Freeman: 21/26, 237 Yds, 5 TD; QB Rating 144.2. Freeman had the same amount of touchdowns as he did incompletions and the Buccaneers are still alive for a playoff spot, but they need some help.

TB-RB LaGarrette Blount: 18 Car, 164 Yds. He has come a long way since punching a Boise State player last year while at Oregon. What a difference a year makes.

MIN-RB Adrian Peterson: 22 Car, 118 Yds, TD and MIN-CB Antonie Winfield: 9 total tackles, 2 sacks, forced fumble and returned it for a TD. The best offensive and defensive performances on a Tuesday night since 1946. It has been a rough three of weeks for Peterson and the Vikings, a home game in Detroit, a Monday night game moved outside in the cold at the University of Minnesota and a Sunday night game moved to Tuesday night.

"C'mon Man"
Carolina Panthers: A frequent "C'mon Man" performer and this week was no different. A 27-3 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, 119 total yards of offense, two turnovers and another poor performance from QB Jimmy Clausen (10/23, 72 Yds, Int; QB Rating 33.2) allowed them to lock up the number overall pick for the NFL Draft come April. Congratulations.

DAL-QB Jon Kitna: 12/20, 115 Yds, TD, 2 Int (both were returned for TD); QB Rating 53.1 and Kitna left the game with a hip injury. Dallas lost as a result, as their very disappointing season continues.

BUF-QB Ryan Fitzpatrick: 18/37, 251 Yds, 3 Int, 2 fumbles lost; QB Rating 37.1. The Bills will almost undoubtedly be drafting a quarterback in April.

Jets and Bears Defense: Two of the best defenses in the league allowed 34 and 38 points respectively and gave up a combined 715 yards of offense. If either team is to make a run in the playoffs, they can't have any repeat performances from Sunday on defense.

CLE-QB Colt McCoy: 15/29, 149 Yds, 3 Int; QB Rating 27.0

San Francisco 49ers: QB Troy Smith: 7/19, 153 Yds, TD, Int, 3 fumbles, one resulted in a safety; QB Rating 62.0 and the 49ers fell to 5-10 with a lose to division rival St. Louis. As a result, San Francisco was eliminated from playoff contention and head coach Mike Singletary, was fired. A rough year for the team by the Bay.

NYG-QB Eli Manning: 17/33, 301 Yds, 2 TD, 4 Int; QB Rating 63.6. Eli has now thrown 24 Ints, which is the most in the NFL and the G-Men are in big trouble now. They need a win Sunday against Washington and some help if they are to make the playoffs. Head coach Tom Coughlin is certainly on the hot seat.

Only one week remains in the NFL Regular Season and there are still three playoff spots up for grabs, two in the NFC and one in the AFC. Should be a very interesting final week of football.

Also, the highly anticipated, well I'm excited about them, 2010 "Holy Crap" Awards are still to come this week. Stay tuned.
